How To Investigate An Article

Sign in with Google to start an investigation.

Enter an OpenRouter API key in the AI Settings form below. Create or manage your key on OpenRouter. Choose a model and whether to keep the key for this tab or remember it in this browser.

Enter an article URL, or choose Paste Article Instead Of Fetching URL and paste its headline and text. Pasting also lets you investigate an article when its website blocks retrieval. Select Investigate Article to begin.

The selected model first summarizes the main article and identifies its material factual claims. SourceLedger uses short keyword queries to research those claims, then asks the model which evidence pages are worth reading.

The model assesses the search results and available evidence documents. SourceLedger then looks up published fact-check results and asks the model to assess their relevance to each claim.

A final model round weighs both assessments together and produces one judgment per claim, explaining the support, contradictions and remaining uncertainty. The saved report slides into view above this form, with the original summary and the complete list of judgments.

Keep this tab open while the investigation runs. The sidebar shows progress, results, limitations and retries. Model requests can take several minutes; each attempt has a ten-minute timeout and up to three retries. You can submit another article after completion or a terminal failure.

Every completed report is automatically published. Anyone can read its title, summary, claims and final judgments through its report link without signing in. Submit only material you are comfortable having summarized and discussed publicly.

Missing search results, blocked pages and unmatched fact checks are limitations, not evidence that a claim is false. Judgments are model-generated investigation aids, not guarantees of accuracy.
